A picture above from last time we met. These are productions I did with Ruth, mainly as DoP (Director of Photography), at our studies at Open Studio, VideoTop, 2000-2001, in chronological order. It feels like a lot more. I placed them together here with details from youtube and vimeo for easy viewing. If anyone has more work of hers, please let me know so I can pass it on.

Rest in peace, dear brave Ruth. I see you everywhere.
04-04-1971 – 30-03-2013

ZEEPSCULPTUURCOMPETITIE

Open Studio, Videotop classes, 2000-2001. Shot on the first day, first time we met. Edited in the camera at first.
Written, directed & cut by Frank Boxman
Camera: Ruth
Actors: Margaret Cieslak, Frank Boxman, Ruth

BLUNT

Open Studio, Videotop classes, 2000-2001. 2nd flick, I think.
Inspired by Takeshi Kitano, his deadpan faces and blunt violence.
Written & directed by Frank Boxman
Camera: Ruth
Editor: Joseph Derksen
Actors: Roger Terwisscha, Lisette, Frank

FLUFFY

Open Studio, Videotop classes, 2000-2001. Class 6 or so.
Inspired by … practical visual effects through decoupage.
Written & directed by Frank Boxman
Camera: Ruth
Light assistant & clapper: Frederique Warners
Editing: Dusan Petkovic
Actor: Frank Boxman

BEN JE GOED GEWEEST?

Open Studio, Videotop classes, 2000-2001.
Inspired by an endproject from someone at the Amsterdam Filmschool. Ages ago. I think it was by a cameraman. This guy was sitting in the dark at this table and there was a gun. Very nicely lit.
Written & directed by Frank Boxman
Camera/sound: Mark Rijk
Light: Ruth
Editing: Frank Boxman
Actors: Margaret Cieslak. Frank Boxman

YOU’VE GOT NO FRIENDS, FRANKIE

Open Studio, Videotop classes, 2000-2001.
Frankie been bad. A stab at Mobfilms.
Triple featuring me, Frank Boxman, because Ruth and I made it up and filmed it in the same day, and we were fresh out of actors. Luckily a stand-in came along at some point in the form of Merijn Zijderlaan. He also did an amazing job with the smoke rings.

GRIJNS

Open Studio, Videotop classes, 2000-2001. Made with a lot of the video collective people as well, up north.
This was the final film for my studies at Open Studio Videotop.
Shot in a week, very strict storyboard, a clapper for every shot. Shooting these days is a lot quicker. So is post, because those computers were slow! Again, fun time was had by all.

KNETTER

Open Studio, Videotop classes, 2001. Filling in for an ill student.
Written & directed by Frank Boxman
Inspired by the flick from the year before: Blunt.
Camera: Milan Collin
Editing: Marieke Achterbos
Sound and Make-up: Ruth Bader
Actors: Mirco Maassen, Che Ouderkerk, Frank Boxman

A BUSHOKrockvideos production directed by Rob Bruijgoms. (in Dutch)

Project
A company film about Jorritsma Bouw, a building contractor. Jorritsma Construction has been a modern, progressive family company for five generations. Their projects range from small renovations for individuals to complex and challenging projects for the business market. In addition they provide maintenance and management for both projects realized by themselves as for existing complexes and homes.

Mutant Worm VFX
My task for this production was logo animation, 3D travel sequences including a 3D model of a cessna, shot stabilization, unfolding 3D billboards, and pimped slideshows using a cool adjusted After Effects template. The video has a nice creditlist at the end, so check out the talents.

Software
Adobe After Effects, Mocha, Adobe Illustrator, Videocopilot Element 3D, The Foundry’s Camera Tracker.

The technical animation process is a story in itself which I will not bore you with too much. I used the new 3D functionality in After Effects CS6 for the billboards. It’s newly implemented camera tracker did not suffice though, which in the end brought me to The Foundry’s Camera Tracker plugin which, frankly, is amazing. If you do want to know more, just ask in the comments.

Ilexys is an independent purchasing organization that improves your purchasing processes. Leaving you to fully concentrate on your core business. Major savings on your Indirect Spend are guaranteed.
www.ilexys.com

John is proud of his company Willpower. That was not always the case!
A lot of time and money used to go up in smoke.
On what?
On purchasing!
Orders and invoices came from every nook and cranny.
Overview and control was missing,
quality was poor,
stock was not managed well,
and supplies were too often too late …
with all its consequences.
Luckily John came in contact with ILEXYS.
With customized purchase
and warehouse management …
Ilexys now ensures that purchases
of facility and technical products come with:
optimal service, the right quality
and the best deals.

It’s super easy in just 3 steps:
order, approve and confirm receipt!
Through Ilexys’ online ordering system,
Willpower’s employees request which items they need.
Ilexys finds the perfect deal.
And thanks to the online ordering system,
John always has clear insight and control …
over what, how and when orders will be delivered:
He approves the order deal …
and items are delivered Just in Time …
in the right quality …
and for even better prices.
John now receives only 1 invoice a week from Ilexys.
and Willpower’s production is better and more efficient …
now that the company can once again
fully focus on its core business!
Also want to purchase better
and at lower prices?
Please get in touch with us.
ILEXYS, purchasing support that suits you.

So here’s my first public technical explanimation. I’ve done several more recently – looking quite a bit different too – but those can’t yet be disclosed. Since this is a technical animation there are no characters to animate; character-wise the best part is at 2:05.

This was a collaboration with Bart Kip from Focus Product Innovation who got me involved with the project. You should see our other stuff with his superb drawings – I hope to be able to share these with you soon.

One of Spark’s machines, the Endurance, even features on Mythbusters! That’s how wicked good they are at what they do.

“This meticulous machine will detect exactly what each sample contains!”

Below is the voice over for the ILD animation.

Injecting a small sample into a UHPLC system with 100% accuracy is quite a challenge!
Lets see how ILD technology meets that challenge!

During the separation, the sample loop is under ultra high pressure.
The syringe has filled the needle plus connecting tubing with sample to prepare for injection.
When the injection valve switches into load-position …
the compressed liquid in the loop expands forcefully via the only outlet: the sample needle.
The effect is uncontrolled dilution of the sample near the inlet of the sample loop.
The syringe draws an accurate volume of sample into the loop, but …
part of that volume is diluted sample.
Switching the injection valve introduces the partly diluted sample into the UHPLC system
resulting in peaks that represent …
analyte concentration with a negative deviation in accuracy

The solution. Watch how it works.

A radial groove in the rotor connected to an additional valve outlet enables decompression of the sample loop before connecting to the sample: Intermediate Loop Decompression.

Back to the starting position:

The sample loop is under ultra high pressure.
The syringe has filled the needle plus connecting tubing with sample to prepare for injection.
When switching to load-position the radial groove will pass one of the sample loop ports …
allowing the liquid in the loop to expand …
via the new central outlet port to waste

So, when the valve arrives at load-position, the sample loop is already at ambient pressure!
The syringe draws an accurate volume of sample into the loop.
A volume that is 100% sample, no dilution!
Switching the valve will now introduce an accurate 100% sample volume into the UHPLC system
Resulting in peaks that represent analyte concentration …
with 100% accuracy

ILD technology, the solution with 100% accuracy.

Last Tuesday we shot the openings-scene to our movie using a miniature “Star-destroyer”. It’s great to do some practical shots next to the 3D. Adam Medic, director Giso’s young Padawan, made this short “behind the scenes” video.
