A dance performance/videoclip by Club Guy and Roni as a promotional piece for an upcoming show. It’s a spoof on ‘Don’t you wish your girlfriend was hot like me’. Hard not to laugh when you’re operating the camera, you might think, but I had to be pretty focussed so that worked out allright. Maybe you should check out the long version as well.
Production by Carla Wolders
DoP and editor was Bouke Mekel, who I share my office with — not that he’s ever around, the busy boy. Just google him.
We shot this on my DIY dolly, in fact, with my Canon HG10.
There are no animations in this one actually. I did do the color grading for this version. It was great fun seeing these creative people doing their thing. You should check out their shows if they’re in the neighborhood. Why don’t I do more of these?
This little thingy was created as an entry for brandfighters.com. The crew was comprised of Frank Boxman, Joep Veldhuis, Sebas Nouwen, and cast Thomas Mook and Lotte Taminiau.
It was a baptism of fire for my Canon HG10 and its DOF-adapter. Great to work with actors and dialogue again, and a lot of stuff to take into account next time, when hopefully the DOF-rig is finished and I’ll have more – and more sensitive – lenses as well as a bigger screen for focussing.
I had to film this upside down and mirrored on a small LCD screen, and we didn’t have enough light. It was fun to do this guerrilla-style, effects and all. I wonder what will happen next time.
You could say it’s a little story of fiction, about time travel, sort of. There is more material that ended up one the virtual cutting room floor. Maybe some day, when I’m 80 and in a resthome, I’ll put it all together as one story with appropriate timing. This had to be no longer.
As for the rest of the process, this film is choke-full of visual effects, all done in After Effects. Even the computer screen has fake distortion to match the other shots. Hollar if you need some details as to the visual effects.
The most fun was adding practical effects to sell the effects in postproduction: a leaf blower and a bottle on a string attached to a PVC tube.
Environmental entry competition. Awareness campaign of possible future with global warming. Trying for a viral. www.60sec.milieudefensie.nl
Shot on my Canon HG10 consumer camera. The rating system was total crap, I’m sorry to say. The public chose by their views. Winners had more views than visits, which is kinda weird.
Created with longtime film partners Joep and Sebas, and ofcourse my precious Sas. That’s my boy Tom in that belly! It’s a nice document of the time when we made this.
I really wanted to end on an outside shot of the house with factory pipes towering above, bit we were out of time. It’s always been the same with these competition things: you don’t want to spend too much time on them because it might not do anything, but then you end up with a product that is not even good enough for your portfolio. Darn. We decided to just make stuff for ourselves if we want to grow creatively, work with other people and actually make it cool as cat. Cool as cat? Why not: cool as cat.
Another collaboration with Joep and Sebas. The best entry we did for the Brandfighters competitions, creating viral commercials.
I had just become a dad so I actually had a lot less to do with this one than other ones, although I like to think that I did influence it a lot. The cool shots aren’t mine, nor were the chicks, but the Canon HG10, the car, the startup cables (from my neighbors) were. Most of all, I gave some sound script advice, I think – pat on my shoulder – but I’m curious to see the extended version. Love the soundtrack.
