One of two toilet-films that we shot in two small groups at the USVA videocollective in about an hour’s time. Same basic location and making multiple edits was the idea. One horror, one comedy. This one’s not from my group but it’s my edit. After Effects was involved. Another edit of this one – called Sound Attack – can be found here.
The comic toilet flick is called ‘Blowjob’ and can be found here on the site.
I did the score in Garageband and used it for both toilet films. It fit.
This flick was conceived and shot in one evening at the USVA Cultural Student Center in Groningen. It turned out quite nice. The temp score is too pretty and hard to replace, so I just had to share it before it just disappears on some shelf.
A few basics for the story were laid down and I came up with most of the rest so ended up writing, directing and editing. Just a fun evening with a nice crew.
Yes, that’s Sebas Nouwen, my many time filmbuddy again, starring with Mirre Oost. Filmbuddy Joep was off doing a short elsewhere in the building this time. Something that had him wearing a tutu I believe. Never saw it. What’s up with that, Joep?
‘For Heaven’s Sake’
You can watch the entire film here.
The second of the Video Collectives weekend films. A lot of recording time and sound editing was needed for adding all the audio in post. My role was quite a large one in this: key elements of the plot, acting, directing bits, video editing, sound editing, visual effects. Quite a memorable weekend with a lot of good people.
I played another religious character in this one.
The film even has some visual effects done by Jeroen, the main character. I did do some masking. Boy, is that a lot easier now.
Having run on several festivals, winning awards, the film finally went online in 2011.

Black comedy by the Usva videocollective from Groningen.
In a usually quiet village dead bodies start to fall from the sky. The local priest knows more…
Filmed in one weekend (autumn 2006) with a dv camera and lots of fun and fire. This movie saw the first naked appearance (not the last!) of Joep Veldhuis. Great music by Sarah Stiles. Starring jeroen Meijer as `the priest’ and Frank Boxman as `Saint Peter’. Camera by Arno Cupédo.
When I returned from Amsterdam I eventually ended up with the Video Collective again. First contribution I made was in the postproduction, as editor. I didn’t go for the weekend because I was prepping Het-Ze, I think.
It had to be trimmed down by 8 minutes, so I set out to edit a more understandable and shorter version of Der Günthergang. It was the first of the weekend-films made by the Video Collective and many were to follow. It captures the fun and madness of the collective’s filmmaking.
Here’s some info from the vimeo page:
Der Günthergang is a fantastic, absurdistic and hilarious film about Günther, a bastard son of Hitler, who with his subordinate Heinrich has settled on the island of Westerborkum to build a strong army and torture prisoners. A secret agent goes undercover to undermine this danger, but love tries to ruine his plans. Shot in one weekend in 2005 by students of the usva videocollective on Schiermonnikoog. All spoken words were dubbed in German, even if there was no meaningfull dialoque to be dubbed at all. Many tears of laughter were shed during the making and viewing of this legendary cult classic from Groningen.
Open Studio, Videotop classes, 2001. Filling in for an ill student.
I don’t quite know a fitting translation for this one. It’s a bit of a wordplay, again, combining Wall-creature with Stroll or Wandering. A bit like Wall’ling. In other words, there’s something in the walls.
I used a lot of close ups to hide the ever present boring setting a bit. Yes, more violence, blood and gore. okay, maybe not so much gore.
