A BUSHOKrockvideos production directed by Rob Bruijgoms. (in Dutch)

Project
A company film about Jorritsma Bouw, a building contractor. Jorritsma Construction has been a modern, progressive family company for five generations. Their projects range from small renovations for individuals to complex and challenging projects for the business market. In addition they provide maintenance and management for both projects realized by themselves as for existing complexes and homes.

My task for this production was logo animation, 3D travel sequences including a 3D model of a cessna, shot stabilization, unfolding 3D billboards, and pimped slideshows using a cool adjusted After Effects template. The video has a nice creditlist at the end, so check out the talents.

Software
Adobe After Effects, Mocha, Adobe Illustrator, Videocopilot Element 3D, The Foundry’s Camera Tracker.
The technical animation process is a story in itself which I will not bore you with too much. I used the new 3D functionality in After Effects CS6 for the billboards. It’s newly implemented camera tracker did not suffice though, which in the end brought me to The Foundry’s Camera Tracker plugin which, frankly, is amazing. If you do want to know more, just ask in the comments.

I was asked by Bushok Rockvideos to provide an intro to Leeuwarden’s bid for Cultural Capital of Europe for 2018. Commissioned by Dizain.
It’s a variation on a much seen effect by Videocopilot, namely the Earth Zoom, ending in a beating heart of the city. This was done in one day. The biggest pain was creating a sharp picture of the city itself.
The zoom could have been more seamless but time was of the essence. Check out my 14 second intro here. It’s over before you know it.
Right after doing my explanimation for Simple Story Videos — actually during finishing touches — I was plunged into an animated fair presentation for Hoza Logistic Solutions. Commissioned by advertisement agency Dizain, produced and directed by Bushok Rockvideos.
It’s actually not very different from an explanimation. It’s not spoken but has to be read, it has no sound, it has less humor. Other than that it’s still an explanimation since the text is build the same way, it’s an animation (even has some subtle character animation), and the purpose is to present and explain what Hoza stands for in a clear and visual manner.
This project almost got the best of my 12 core Mac Pro and it was a tough render-heavy experience. As a result I’ve added to my RAM and hard drives. A valuable free video course dealing with performance— covering many tips I found elsewhere — is this one at Video2Brain by Todd Kopriva: After Effects & Premiere Pro Performance Workshop. Running 1 hr 20 min it is well worth your while.
In the end this project did yield a 4.5 minute awesome soundless video that is somewhat different from my earlier work … and yet the same. The sky isn’t the limit. Maybe it’ll have sound design at some point in the future, if the client wants it. That’d be cool.
A thank you goes out to videocopilot.
Teaser of an upcoming USVA videocollective production. Shot in 2008, and pickups in may 2009. This clip was the first sequence shot for the flick.
Basically, the film was conceived and shot in one weekend, except for the pickups.
Postproduction takes a bit more time when you become a dad twice in a row and start your own company ![]()
Runtime will be about 9 minutes.
I used a videocopilot tutorial as basis for the visual effects and motion graphics for the titles, done in After Effects.
There’s also been a trailer out there for a while now which I put together with Joep Veldhuis:
After Effects animation / enhanced slideshow created in a short time for Drachten|Smallingerland for a civil servant gathering. Commissioned by Statement communication bureau. Meant as an overview of developments in the municipality, and more to tantalize than a tell a story.
Thanks go out to videocopilot for some tricks and the sure target plugin.
