[:en]The leader for Imagine 2011: the 27th Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival.
Based on Iris van der Eijken’s artwork. After the well-recieved leader of last year, I was asked to create one for this year. Again based on the festival poster it is somewhat similar in approach as last year’s, but different. My aim, again, was to make the flat image 3D using after effects, really making use of all the layers of the psd-file.
For after effects users interested in the motion graphic process: part of that meant using creating a displacement map for the person, and placing every element from the psd-file in 3D space, dispersing them in z-space, and changing the sizes accordingly to keep the same placement and perspective as the original poster.
The leader was generally well received by the festival crew. They put it online, plugging it through social media, and soon it was on their site as well. It showed before many of the festival films during its 10 day run.
The leader made good use of my new 12-core Mac; it would have taken me weeks of rendering otherwise. Of course I went all out in testing some new render-heavy tricks I wanted to pull.
I spent a Sunday at Imagine Filmfestival in Amsterdam, mainly to see a lot of shorts and to attend the POWER TO THE PEOPLE symposium about crowd funding/sourcing. Interesting speakers, like Eddy Terstall and Iron Sky directorTimo Vuorensola, were present.
The crappy video was shot with my mobile of my Imagine 2011 leader (based on Iris van der Eijken’s artwork) on a huge outdoor screen at Rembrandtplein during the festival. It ran a lot, about twice a minute at some point.
The other clip is in Kriterion in the evening showing visitors and the leader on a wall in the patio out back. I forgot to film it on the screen where it is/was showing before nearly every festival film.
The Imagine Amstardam Fantastic Film Festival was from 13-23 April 2011 in Kriterion. I found a few of the short online:

Ik heb net gister de hele dag doorgebracht op het Imagine Filmfestival in Amsterdam. Vooral veel shorts gezien en het symposium POWER TO THE PEOPLE over crowd funding/sourcing bijgewoond.
