This little thingy was created as an entry for brandfighters.com. The crew was comprised of Frank Boxman, Joep Veldhuis, Sebas Nouwen, and cast Thomas Mook and Lotte Taminiau.
It was a baptism of fire for my Canon HG10 and its DOF-adapter. Great to work with actors and dialogue again, and a lot of stuff to take into account next time, when hopefully the DOF-rig is finished and I’ll have more – and more sensitive – lenses as well as a bigger screen for focussing.
I had to film this upside down and mirrored on a small LCD screen, and we didn’t have enough light. It was fun to do this guerrilla-style, effects and all. I wonder what will happen next time.
You could say it’s a little story of fiction, about time travel, sort of. There is more material that ended up one the virtual cutting room floor. Maybe some day, when I’m 80 and in a resthome, I’ll put it all together as one story with appropriate timing. This had to be no longer.
As for the rest of the process, this film is choke-full of visual effects, all done in After Effects. Even the computer screen has fake distortion to match the other shots. Hollar if you need some details as to the visual effects.
The most fun was adding practical effects to sell the effects in postproduction: a leaf blower and a bottle on a string attached to a PVC tube.
