Where do babies come from?
Just for the records, kids: this is not how it works! 😉
A huge thanks to Gijs van Veldhuizen from Audiogijs for the awesome custom made music!
So this is episode one in what I intend to be a series about the child logic that I remember. It should be good for a few laughs, or perhaps tears.
I have quite a few ideas already. How often I can make them, time will tell.
Up next: Nanotechnology!
I actually came up with this format in the spirit of R&D, to test animation ideas and techniques in. So it’s a way to explore and also do my own thing.Â
To keep it manageable, it was supposed to be a 6 second format but turns out this first one already took 14 seconds. That just goes to show: stories are told in the time it takes to tell them.
One of the objectives is to find a way to create animation quickly but still custom made. A lot of the time, budget constraints force me to take shortcuts, using stock — whether it be music or illustrations — and I do firmly believe that some of the soul is lost in the process. You’re looking for an emotional impact with a video and in my opinion this can’t be done if you make things too slick, solely informative, impersonal and clinical. That’s why I like the hand drawn look. That’s why I create stories, however short. That’s why I love humor. I also really am grateful Gijs went along for the ride on this one, because a custom score does so much. Again, it’s about eliciting an emotion.
Please do 🙂
I’m sure it’ll help if there’s enthusiasm out there for shorts like these, so please do let me know if you would enjoy more of these. It’s already scoring better on my facebook fanpage than all my other posts so I guess I’m doing something right.
